Frequent Questions

What is Fused Glass?

Fused (fusible) glass is made specifically to be heated in a kiln so that it will melt and bond with other fusible glass. This allows artists to create a variety of items, such as bowls, plates, jewelry, sun-catchers, and other pieces of art. Fusible glass comes in an enormous range of colors, sizes, and shapes (sheets, crumbles (frit), strings (stringers), and others) for designing bright, beautiful art.

What will I do in a Just Playing With Glass class?
  • Students generally:
    • (Beginner students) Learn to score and break glass using various tools designed specifically for glass work.
    • Decide what form they want their final project to be (for example, a sun-catcher, tray, votive holder, or other options)
    • Design, cut, and place small pieces of colored glass on top of larger pieces to create their own unique work of art.
    • Tell the instructor how they would like to have their piece fired (contour fused (textured) or full fused (flat)).
  • The instructor fires the item in the kiln to the client’s specifications.
  • The artwork is ready to be picked up at the studio in approximately one week.
How many students are required per class?

There is no minimum. However, the studio can only accommodate a maximum of eight students per class.

On which days of the week are classes held?

Classes are scheduled on Saturdays, but the studio is available for classes 7 days a week by request.

When will my art pieces be ready for pickup?

It depends on several factors, such as the size of the class, the number of firings required for each piece, and how many pieces are in line to be fired before yours. In most cases, you can expect to pick up your art within a week.

Do I have to select a project from the class registration page?

If you have never fused glass before, it is recommended (not required) that you select a beginner project from my website. The intermediate projects on the website are a good starting point for those who have completed a beginner’s class but aren’t quite ready for more advanced projects. If you are an experienced fuser, I encourage you to explore projects that interest you on YouTube, Etsy, Pinterest, and other sources. Please contact me prior to registering if you choose to do a project that is not on the class registration page.

Are children allowed to attend classes?

Yes! Ages 10 and up are always welcome. Children between 10 and 13 must be accompanied by an adult.
